Foods for healthier gums

Brushing, flossing and swishing are all vital actions your mouth needs to improve the health of your gums. Eating and chewing are two others and it is very important to try and eat the best foods for healthier gums. Here is a list of some foods which are proven to improve the health of your gums.

You won’t e’leaf’ this one

Leafy greens such as kale, broccoli and spinach are high in vitamin-C. This means they boost the production of red-blood cells and reduce inflammation. They also require more chewing which creates more saliva in the mouth. The extra saliva helps to flush out food particles, bacteria and plaque.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Add to salads
  • Have as a cooked side dish
  • Cook in soups
  • Add to sandwiches
  • Add to curries

Good health is like onions, there’s layers to it

Onions have microbial properties. These properties neutralize oral bacteria and reduce gum disease and cavaties.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Add to salads
  • Add to sandwiches
  • Use in stir-fries
  • Cook in soups
  • Cook in stews and casseroles

The Square ‘Root’ of Healthy Gums is Ginger

The ginger root is a powerful anti-inflammatory that helps protect against periodontal diseases. It does this by neutralizing acids formed by bacteria.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Have in hot tea
  • Add to soups
  • Use in curries
  • Use in stir-fries

Y M C… Ay don’t you want better gums?

Dairy products like yoghurt, milk and cheese are high in calcium. This makes them important in strengthening bones and teeth. They also contain a protein called casein. Casein, like the properties found in ginger root, neutralizes the oral acids in the mouth formed from bacteria.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Drink a glass of milk every day
  • Eat more natural yoghurts
  • Add cheese to salads and sandwiches

I Sin’celery’ suggest crunchy fruits and veg

Crunchy fruits and veg like celery, carrots and apples are good foods for heathier gums as they scrape away stuck on foods and plaque left from previous meals. Similarly, to the leafy greens, the extra chewing needed to break down these foods helps to clean the mouth of bacteria.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Enjoy as a snack alternative to crisps and sweets

Have Migh’tea healthy gums

Black and green tea are types of polyphenols. This means they contain antioxidants, in particular catechins. Catechins, specifically help fight inflammation.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.0.106″ src=”https://dentogen.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/tea.jpeg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” force_fullwidth=”off” show_bottom_space=”on” /][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.106″ background_layout=”light” text_font=”Gill Sans||||||||” text_text_color=”#004ba7″ header_font=”Gill Sans|700|||||||” header_text_color=”#00b2e3″ header_4_font=”Gill Sans|600|||||||” header_4_text_color=”#004ba7″ header_2_font=”Gill Sans|600|||||||” header_2_text_color=”#004ba7″ link_font=”Gill Sans||||||||” link_text_color=”#00b2e3″]

You are going to ‘Clove’ this

Cloves, again, contain antioxidants that remove bacteria. The oil from cloves is known for its anti-inflammatory properties too.

How to incorporate in to your diet:

  • Boil ground cloves in tea
  • Add to salads

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”3.0.106″ src=”https://dentogen.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Cloves.jpeg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” force_fullwidth=”off” show_bottom_space=”on” /][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.106″ background_layout=”light” text_font=”Gill Sans||||||||” text_text_color=”#004ba7″ header_font=”Gill Sans|700|||||||” header_text_color=”#00b2e3″ header_4_font=”Gill Sans|600|||||||” header_4_text_color=”#004ba7″ header_2_font=”Gill Sans|600|||||||” header_2_text_color=”#004ba7″ link_font=”Gill Sans||||||||” link_text_color=”#00b2e3″]

If you try and incorporate some of these into your diet on top of brushing, flossing and using mouthwash, then you will no doubt have happy and healthy gums.
